Traditionally used over heating pipes in the floors of Victorian
and Edwardian conservatories and often found similarly used in
churches and orangeries, these cast iron gratings are a delight.
We do stock a few so please ring if you require just one or two and need a
quick delivery, but generally they are made to order so please add
2 weeks to our normal
delivery time if they need to be made - they are worth the wait and will not look out of
place in the grandest house or in the finest church.
Items are supplied
undrilled. Please let us know if you require them drilled .

Bearers are an essential foundation for any new build flooring and for channel
grates. The lugs are cemented over to secure the grating in place and the
grating sits in the 1/2" deep recess. Corners can be formed by placing the
ends of the bearers to butt up against each other. This is a simple method
although it will leave a small gap at each corner. A far better solution
is to mitre the corners, just like making a picture frame using an angled mitre
grinding machine. If you would like us to do this for you we will be happy
to quote for this, which is typically £50 per corner, please
email with your requirements.

Square Hole and Slotted
Traditionally used over heating pipes in the floors of Victorian
and Edwardian conservatories, these cast iron gratings come in
two patterns, the plain square holed pattern and a slotted design.
The slotted design is available in 3" and 6"
widths, whilst the square hole pattern in 24" lengths is available from stock in widths of 4", 5", 6", 7" and
8". Although we don't have photographs of every
square hole grate , the 4" wide has 3 rows of holes (see
photo on the right) and the 5" has
4 rows, the 6" has 5 rows, the 7" has 6
rows and the 8" has 7 rows.
Square holes are 15mm x 15mm and the 6" slotted grates have 14mm slots.
Items are supplied undrilled. Please let us know if you require
them drilled .
