Designs and Uses
Louvre grilles have a number of uses . As air
outlets they deflect air and gas downwards and can also help to reduce back
draught especially when facing towards the prevailing wind.
They do help to reduce the amount of litter and cigarette ends push into vents
in public buildings. They are often used for this purpose in rail stations
(generally situated near ground level)and help reduce the occurrence of fires caused by careless
passengers.
On exposed external walls they are particularly useful in deflecting rainwater
ingress.

British Designs and British Castings
All our cast iron products are made in the UK, the 9x3 inch air bricks shown
here are made to our specifications in foundries in Yorkshire, Birmingham and
Scotland. Some, the Regency Scroll and Max Flow are individually made by
hand using wooden molds and green sand for a heavyweight rustic finish. Others,
the Victorian Y design, Slotted and square hole designs are made from metal patterns, four cast at a time for a finer and more precise finish.
All purchases made from The Cast Iron Air Brick Company support British
manufacturing...........
Because all our products are made in UK
Paint or Bare Metal?
Our cast iron products contain iron, nearly 100% iron
to be precise and this iron will rust if it isn't kept protected from
moisture and air. Whilst many of our products are supplied painted, we
do offer customers the choice to have some of them left bare metal. It
seems strange to leave them bare metal to go rusty but the rust coating on
iron acts as a protection against corrosion and ensures the air brick will
remain for 100 years or more without any preservation. In fact, many of the
ironware we see in our high streets and roads (drain covers and gutters) are
unpainted.
We would recommend either painted or bare metal air bricks installed
externally in
red bare brick walls and painted air bricks for
external rendered or painted walls and for any internal use. Our painted air bricks
are primed and then painted using a two-part professional epoxy black gloss
paint which will need repainting from time to time.
My 9x6 Louvre cast
iron air brick has just arrived. Many thanks
for your very prompt service.
