CRM6 Mackintosh air brick
Inspired by an inspirational trip to Glasgow, Scotland to view examples of Charles Rennie Mackintosh designs in 2013, our 9 x 6 cast iron Mackintosh air brick has taken nearly a year to reach production. We’re delighted with the results as we’re sure it’ll appeal to many contemporary architects and interior designers wanting to offer their clients something different and it’s available in a choice of finishes, bare as standard or painted black (+£10).
Stunning designer air brick, ideally suited for Edwardian and Art Deco restorations and especially for high end new builds, barn conversions and extensions. This is not the sort of vent that you will want to hide away as it is a beautiful piece of art work in its own right – be sure to position it accordingly!
This grille is ideally suited for external use but can also be used as an internal vent, plastered in the wall to sit flush. The design is based very much on the wonderful Charles Rennie Mackintosh high backed chair that we discovered on our visit to the Willow Tea Rooms, Glasgow.
The 18,500mm2 of free air flow from a 9×6 inch sized air brick makes this our most efficient vent.
Although not a perfect fit, duct tape can be used to adjoin this imperial sized air brick to a metric sized plastic cavity wall duct. This item known as a Cavity Horizontal Extension (CAVHEXT6) can be used to transfer air through the wall to an internal grille such as the Heritage 9×6 (item HER96) or Daisy Vent (DAY107). Mesh cannot be fitted in this air brick but is more suited to be installed behind the internal grille (and it can be regularly removed for cleaning) were it serves to prevent bugs entering the rooms and reduces draughts, albeit reducing the free air by 1/3rd.

Cast iron air bricks are used either externally or internally, built into walls (either brick or stone) to fit flush with the wall surface and secured in place with mortar or plaster.
9" x 3" (225 x 75mm) air bricks are a very popular size as it is the standard size of an old fashioned British house brick. If air flow is important, again the max flow, as the name suggests is a clear winner.
The 9x6 air bricks are twice the size of a standard house brick, therefore allowing a greater free air flow. The 9x9 and 12x9 air bricks are also available to supply larger air flows.
