A feature of the Windsor metric air brick is that unlike the rest of imperial air bricks, it engages perfectly with the metric plastic ducting, so can be used in conjunction with the Rytons cavity wall sleeve ducting without the need for duct tape. These air bricks are interlocking, the two protrusions on the top of each air brick engage with corresponding holes at the bottom of additional Windsor air bricks to allow the air bricks to be triple.
The cavity wall sleeves are telescopic and are 230mm long and extend to 404mm . For installations where the walls are thicker it is possible to add another wall sleeve and we sell these separately without an air brick as cavity wall extensions CAVHEXT9 The Windsor air bricks engage externally in the corresponding lugs at one end of the cavity sleeve leaving the internal flange free to accept a grille for display in the room. We recommend using a drilled 9×9 inch Heritage vent, item HER9 on internal walls, either with or without copper flyscreen mesh. Please note – mesh may not legally be used (UK – current GAS Safe and HETAS regulations apply) where the vents are required to feed a combustion appliance or the room where there is a combustion appliance, please seek professional advice .
The Windsor metric cast iron air brick can be used anywhere where the plastic air brick is used ie. sub floor ventilation, cavity ventilation, condensation reduction and room ventilation except the Windsor air brick leaves a high end finish that enhances the quality of the property. Although frequently specified by architects and designers on numerous new builds and extensions we are still finding significant numbers of clients having Windsor air bricks fitted to replace plastic air bricks that have only recently been installed.
The CAV9 is installed in numerous London properties in SW10 and SW15, the CAV6 has been used in extensive conversion work at Hampstead Manor, other notable installation of our cavity wall sleeves combined with the metric windsor air bricks include Hampton Court Palace Pavillions and the New Place museum at the stunning 15th century grade 1 listed building, Nash’s House in Stratford Upon Avon.
Product specifications can be found in the table below.
The air bricks are normally used externally and are the Windsor style which interconnect and clip into the cavity wall sleeve.
If the wall thickness is more than 400mm then additional cavity wall sleeves are required and these are available item CAVHEXT9
Painted vents use two part epoxy black gloss top coat which is hard wearing but is just a decorative finish, like all painted cast iron products it will require repainting from time to time, especially if situated on an exposed wall. Repainting can be frequent if the grille is positioned in the sunlight, or chipped or exposed to salt air . The gloss paint will dull over time, in exposed conditions it is likely to dull to a satin sheen fairly quickly. Regardless of the paint finish the cast iron grille will last for many decades with or without painting.
