This Spring we visited some of the many addresses in SW1X we have supplied air bricks to over the last couple of years. Many have now finished but some are still undergoing restoration. It was fantastic to see so much building work, scaffolding, vans, trades and activity in this busy city and see all the beautiful architectural features of Belgravia and Chelsea. Despite almost 2 months of constant rain, builders have been busy, many hiding under huge elaborate scaffolding and sheeting structures. We spoke to lots of restorers and also met up with a Wilton Crescent resident who had lived on the same street he was born in over 85 years , sharing the same street as Lord Louis Mountbatten . We discovered plenty of our air bricks as well, lots of Grid pattern air bricks and of course the Max flow designs . One 9×9 inch air brick was one of the air bricks we had cast 15 years ago and had our name plate on it , still looking as good as the day it was installed.
Of course, we stayed right in the middle of all the action at The Cadogan
What a fabulous hotel, renowned for its links with Oscar Wilde and Lillie Langtry. If you haven’t been we can thoroughly recommend it, the staff were brilliant and so kind. In the square opposite is a huge garden with two beautiful tennis courts and the doorman let us in with a key so we could have a look round. It was amazing, such a peaceful retreat right in the centre of this beautiful city. We even discovered a little sundial in the centre of the garden with an inscription dedicating it to the head gardener in 1912 who went on a trip to New York and never returned (on the Titanic).
Well, we will certainly keep our eyes open for more orders heading out to S1WX. We are sure to come back and see how you’re all getting on again, I’m sure .
Here are some of the fabulous restorations our customers have been getting on with in the capital.
