It’s great working with cast iron and being a part of so many restorations around the country.
Even more fitting, is our workshop, which is a restoration project in itself !
Time for some repairs of our own, the doors, although lovely and authentic barely have enough sound wood to support the hinges.
We’re reusing as much as we can and the iron work is being installed on the new doors. You can clearly see the stamp of the forge that made these , blacksmith JE Winson which was a forge in the village near us on the way to Exeter, Rewe. These fittings must be at least 100 years old and still totally serviceable. A search on the internet shows the Forge at Rewe no longer exists but “The Old Forge” in Rewe is still trading as a Car Garage and you can still buy cars from the “blacksmiths” that made our hinges !
