FLY9 Air Brick

£185.00£195.00

9 x 9 Fly Screen Air Brick with choice of finishes, bare as standard or painted black ( + £10). The FLY9 is our most popular cast iron flyscreen air brick because it has a free area with the mesh of 13,000mm2, allowing a significant amount of air for ventilation compared to smaller sized airbrick. Mainly used as an exterior air brick, it can also be used with cavity wall sleeve item CAVHEXT9 , duct tape and the interior 9×9 inch heritage grille (item HER9).

The mesh is a copper mesh of 1mm gauge with 1mm x 1mm square holes ideal for preventing ingress of flies, wasps and rodents.

There is no option to use a flood screen with this size air brick. consider using a smaller air brick such as FLY6 if flooding lis likely so a floodscreen can be used.

Choose a bare metal finish to allow to rust for “industrial look” or installation in red brick properties where the rust wont stain the render or bricks, for light bricks and coloured render choose painted black finish. Customers can also prime and paint bare metal air bricks to their own colours with oil or epoxy paints.

For commercial orders we can supply the fronts of these air bricks in any RAL colour, professionally primed with 3 part epoxy 2 part gloss or matt top coat at an additional cost of £200 + vat – please email item number, quantity and RAL number for a proforma cost for this.

Please note mesh cannot legally be used (UK – current GAS Safe and HETAS regulations apply)  on vents where the vents are required to feed a combustion appliance or the room where there is a combustion appliance.

The flyscreen air brick is exclusive to the Cast Iron Air Brick Company and a legacy of the 2012 London Olympics as we created it for installation in the athletes village properties in Stratford – these were installed by leading housing group, Galliford Try. All three sizes 9×3,9×6 and 9×9 are popular for installation in properties across the country and as well as overseas in USA and especially Dublin, Ireland.

Painted vents use two part epoxy black gloss top coat which is hard wearing but is just a decorative finish, like all painted cast iron products it will require repainting from time to time, especially if situated on an exposed wall. Repainting can be frequent if the grille is positioned in the sunlight, or chipped or exposed to salt air . The gloss paint will dull over time, in exposed conditions it is likely to dull to a satin sheen fairly quickly. Regardless of the paint finish the cast iron grille will last for many decades with or without painting.
